Eskapaden im Sonnenschein

Sleeping Duty No 2
Sleeping Duty No 2

poetic reading

Midday heat in the bus shelter. How long has it been since a bus arrived? A whole choir sleeps standing, leaning against each other out in the open by the country road. Perhaps the bus drove on quietly, so as not to wake the choir.

Objective description

Women and men, all dressed in black, the women wearing bright red scarves, have squeezed themselves into a bus shelter. Standing there, they have fallen asleep, peacefully leaning against one another, in the heat of summer.

Plausible association

Der ländliche Raum gilt oft als verschlafen. Hier ist der Beweis. Ein ganzer Chor schläft im Bushäuschen. Wo gibt's denn so was? In Brandenburg!

Artistic intention

Sleep is generally considered a time for regeneration. We are briefly away, only to return fit and present. But that does the sleep an injustice. Much more happens during sleep, and we remain sensitive to everything around us, who is near and who is far. Social beings remain social even in sleep.
