poetic reading
The winner of 60secondsdance is an unpretentious, funny and thought provoking dance film. Man and machine meet in a comic and self-ironic way. This interplay makes us reflect on how humans can get pacified and apathetic in the interaction with new technology. The film offers many analytical interpretations, and succeeds in showing a choreographic expression in a documentary context that combines movements and dance between humans and objects within the same frame.
Objective description
The story is conveyed in tableaux, and several of these take advantage of the depth of the frame to show several actions that add to the concept. The costumes also support the atmosphere in the film. We see the meaninglessness of our existence communicated in a humoristic way, but in the end we disappear into nature – represented by a tree.
Plausible association
Strange creatures move through urban space on Segways, the choreography of the silently mechanically moving bodies is reinforced by the editing. Through its dramaturgy and its humorous, astonishing movement scenario, the small, self-contained film is able to capture these three absurd figures within a short time - are they time travelers, extraterrestrials or seekers of meaning? - on a journey. On this journey, they encounter people and objects that are also moving, and somehow they all seem to be on the same path. Fortunately? But isn't that absurd?
Artistic intention
The media artist Sirko Knüpfer and the choreographer Paula E. Paul have been working together under the label KOMBINAT since 2009. They are currently developing a dance theatre piece in which three sopranos on Segways conquer the space singing - this is how the CHOREOGRAPHIC CAPTURE "VOYAGE-VOYAGE" was created.
